Biography

John Keith Henry

1915-1981

John Keith Henry was born in Cresco, Iowa on May 3,1915.

He showed an interest in art and drawing at an early age.

He attended Cumming School of Art in Des Moines, Iowa and worked in the Art Dept. for Meredith Publishing Co. before enlisting in the U. S. Coast Guard in early 1942. He was employed as an artist for the Coast Guard while stationed in New Orleans and Washington D. C. from 1942 -1945.

In August of 1946 he married Marie Prochaska and settled in Mobile, Alabama where he worked as an illustrator and cartoonist for the Mobile Press Register. After relocating to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1948, John became employed in the advertising field as an illustrator and art director. In 1969, he opened his own design agency where he worked until his death on June 20,1981.

John had a lifelong interest in watercolor and oil painting as well as drawing. He produced many pieces as a sideline to his commercial work.
